On the eve of my last day as the Public Relations Chair of the Western Student Association, before I sob like a baby and jump for joy that my Wednesday afternoons are free, I want to leave the two maybe three readers of this blog with one last post.... (don't pretend like you read this, you don't!) (hi mom!)
So on Cabinet Retreat over the summer we wrote ourselves letters to open at the end of the year when our administration was over. Well we got to open our letters last night! and I was so excited about mine that I want to share it with you...
So this is what I wrote in July of last year............
Dear Erin,
I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE GRADUATING. I hope this year has shown you that involvement can make a difference - I hope you accomplished the things you set your mind too and I hope this position has prepared you for what comes next!
Looking back on the year I hope you feel like it was a success and not too stressful! I hope it was worth all those long nights staying up til 5AM working on papers for DBH and press releases for the WSA.
Finally I hope the opportunities you were given - were not taken for granted and you learned from every mistake along the way.
Good luck girl,
Love Yourself............
Wow did I hit the nail on the head with the DBH part huh? muahhaha.
Anyways even though this is my last post, it is not goodbye - for a new PR chair will "take the reigns," (get it? ha ha) and probably do a million cooler things than I ever did! So have a great summer everyone and get ready for a brand new administration!
Goodbye friends :)
PS. Erin Kaplan and Hailey Mangrum will be inaugurated as the next President and Vice-President tomorrow (Wednesday) at 4:15pm in room 157 of the Bernhard Center. See everyone there!

Isn't that cool that I caught it at 9 hours exactly? All I can say is this is the single greatest Public Relations campaign I have ever seen WMU do. So majaahhh props to them. I mean WSA Sustainability Chair, Alyssa Schafer said her parents got a postcard in the mail! There is SO MUCH BUZZ! I love it.
So glad I go to such an amazing school!
Stay tuned for more on the "announcement," as well as the announcement of the new WSA President on Wednesday.

Get your mind off the upcoming St.Patricks day, (some of us can't go out... because of a certain two day midterm... coughhhhh) and decide who your going to vote for because THE ELECTION WEEK START TOMORROW AT 8AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's less than 9 and a half hours away! The candidates are ready to talk to YOU so research where they are gonna be and when!
Why should you vote for your next WSA President or Vice President you say? Coffee, transitions, elections, and giant question marks
So,
I've heard "iPad Vending Machine," Life size hologram of Dr. Dunn, Greg Jennings Super Bowl Jersey, and the extracted remains of Sangren. (Yuck) All guesses of what is under the giant question mark roped-off surprise in the main entrance of the Bernhard Center!

3/10 (Thurs) WSA Presidential Debate
- Watch Hearit-Putnam and Kaplan-Mangrum playfully duke it out over WMU issues!
3/12 (SAT) Diversity Lock-in!

3/14-3/18 ELECTION WEEK!!!!!
- Polls open for Broncos to vote in their new WSA President and Vice President
3/19 Polar Plunge
- See Dr. Dunn jump into a pool full of ice
3/30 Inauguration of New WSA Cabinet

Dear WMU Bronco's
School was open today! For a moment I thought we could have a snow day, and then suddenly a new WSA presidential candidate would announce their candidacy! Seeing as we are in school, though, I do not think we will have that spicy revelation.
One of the things I love about WSA is that the organization strives to include all students and all student organizations. This is apparent by having senators from academic colleges as well as senators from student groups. These senators represent the greater student body, a.k.a. YOU! Now that it is election season, the WSA continues to strive for student input. We have two amazing candidates running for president of the WSA and every Western student has the ability to vote and decide.
Last year about 1000 people voted in the election. This year the goal was set to 2500, about 10% of the student body. This goal is not going to be easy to meet, but I believe that it can be reached. You may be asking yourself what you can do to help out (as this is what I would be asking myself, naturally). One thing is most important: spread the word!
Even if you don't know much about the candidates, cant decide between them, or really want to just vote for the Christina Clarke and Alyssa Schafer write-in campaign,
encourage everyone you know to vote.
(Photo of Christina and Alyssa from their Facebook write-in campaign)
The WSA is the student voice on campus, and this year, we are looking for the most of that voice in the election.
Have fun Broncos!
-Matthew Vargo
