For any of you who don't know, the WSA tries to have a guest speaker at every Wednesday meeting. President Dunn spoke at the beginning of the meeting tday and he had plenty of good things to say about the WSA a.k.a us! He began by stating that he is "very fond of saying the university is a university for students." He also commented that WMU is an anchor holding all of us together but allowing us to drift where ever. Prez Dunn also made several comments that made me so inspired for instance,
"We care deeply about our students, we want everyone to do well"
"Central Michigan University inspires to be like Western in all aspects"
"Get in the game or get out and we are in the game!" (About WMU's medical school)
Prez Dunn also took questions (how cool is that! not many students will be able to say they got to have a face to face question and answer with the president of their university!)
A student questioned the motive behind a med school for WMU, when we need to improve our other colleges ie: college of engineering, college of education etc. Dr. Dunn replied that schools with med schools get 45% of the federal dollars and in order to improve our other schools we need the funding which will come with the med school.
I was very pleased to interact with Prez Dunn. He is such a student oriented president and I appreciate that very much. So thanks Dr. Dunn!!! We thank you for everything you do for us students!
Also in today's meeting we approved the "Senate Rules," which include a bunch of stuff on how meetings should be run. Stuff that I don't understand yet BUT did anyone hear me say "I yield," today during the Positional Updates? I felt like a real life WSA member!
We then approved the Judicial Council Rules: which is funny because we don't have any judicial council members yet! If you would like to be a part of the JC email Chief Justice Jim Stano at wsa-chiefjustice@wmich.edu
Since I can't speak for any other committe member chairs I am going to discuss what my committee talked about today! (PR Committee) Ok so PR committee member Kiersten Nall had the idea that the WSA should create a video once a month that showcases what happened at WMU during that period. It would include clips like the Homecoming Soapbox race, a clip of a student giving blood, an interview with a student who has something to say about WMU, a picture of the flowers outside Ellsworth Hall, Dr. Dunn speaking at the meeting, and MORE! We want WMU Students to take raw video footage or pictures of their favorite things on campus, their art, their music ANYTHING and then we would turn it into a video once a month. This is pure CGC (consumer generated content).
The PR committee would then take the footage, edit it, (With help from Austin Godfrey) and then post it on our VERY OWN YOUTUBE CHANNEL! The WSA is totally in the dark for not having a YouTube channel! THEN we would post the link on our Twitter, Facebook, Blog (obvs), also in an ad in the Western Herald, on gowmu, gorso, and a bunch of other places! So please stay tuned for the first video which should come out around the first of the month!
Finally I have a few updates for WMU:
- The blood drive starts this Monday from 11am to 4:45pm in the Bernhard Center. The WSA is collaborating with CAB and we would looooove to have everyone come out and donate blood. You can save three lives that's 3x the amount of friends you guys have! JUST KIDDING!
- Also The Senate Retreat is this Saturday (10/9) from 10am to 3pm. It's a really good experience for those who need a little help understanding how the WSA functions (ahem-ME) and also it gives you a chance to meet and chat it up with us cabinet members. We have a ton of fun games BREAKFAST AND LUNCH! and then we will let you go before the start of the Michigan-Michigan State game (GO GREEEEENNNN!!! *:p LH*) It will be a fun Saturday afternoon so I better see everyone there!
That's all for today folks! For questions, comments,or concerns email me at wsa-publicrelations@wmich.edu
and I will leave you with some pics from my dad's camera....
Love them :) ps. I spilled hot cocoa all over my leg lol
I DID THAT! I wore my medal all day.
PS. Has anyone heard Taylor Swift's new song? It's titled "Speak Now" can that be the WSA's theme song? HAHA!
